A Walla Walla man who stole and crashed a truck was sentenced to drug treatment and custody on Friday.
Benjamin R. Carroll, 23, was arrested on February 20 after officials replied to the 500 block on Pine Street. A woman had called the shipping office and said her boyfriend was chasing Carroll, who took the Ford F150 in 1998 that her mother had provided to the couple.
officers found Carroll on foot near the Sumach and Park streets after the crash. He told them he picked up a truck for a friend and "someone came in through the rear sash and hit him and ran away from the guy," the records said.
He said he would take the truck with an acquaintance so that it could be exchanged for fentanyl.
The friend said he had seen someone steal it from his home and jumped in the back when it drove away. He crawled through the window and tried to park it. However, the truck crashed and injured his head.
Carroll pleaded not guilty on March 2 to vehicle theft, injury and third degree driving with a suspended / revoked driver's license.
The fees were later reduced in an objection agreement. His sentence on Friday included a six-month alternative to convicting drug-related offenses in residential areas, two years imprisonment in the community, pending reimbursement, and fines and fees of $ 500.
